Best recreational parks and museums for kids in Stockholm

Stockholm is a perfect destination for families with children. You can find a wide range of activities – entertaining, educational or both at the same time that will make your children happy. Below some of the best activities that parents can do with their children in Stockholm.

Junibacken is a children’s museum based on the works of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. It feels more like a big recreational park than a museum itself, with a small train ride and several playrooms where children have freedom to play and are really stepping into Lindgren’s stories, including Pippi Longstocking and Ronja the Robber’s Daughter. You and/or your children are not familiar with Astrid Lindgren or Pippi Longstocking? No worries, your children will have as much fun as if they would.

The place is close to most of the most famous Stockholm museums, so it’s a great stop to mix recreational and educational activities in the same day.

  • Visit the Tekniska Museet (Technology Museum) google map

Stockholm Tekniska Museet is dedicated to showcasing the history and development of technology and innovation in Sweden (and beyond) over the years, covering different areas of technology, including communication, transport, and energy.

It is a great place to visit with children. The museum has many interactive exhibits and hands-on activities that will engage and entertain your children, no matter their ages. They can learn about the history of technology and innovation in a fun and engaging way. The museum also has a specific children’s section called the “Teknopark,” which includes exhibits and activities catered specifically for kids. The museum also hosts events and workshops that are designed for families with children. All in all it’s a great place to kid children and adults entertained while learning new things.

Fjärilshuset is a great place to visit during a rainy day. Inside children and adults get to experience different worlds. The butterfly room is filled with beautiful butterflies in an environment close to their natural habitat. You can also explore the other rooms to see exotic flowers, palm trees, plants and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

In the same location (and with the same entrance ticket), you can visit the Haga Ocean aquarium which features a range of different habitats, from tropical coral reefs to the icy waters of the Arctic. There you can see rays, eels, sea turtles and exotic fishes from around the world. One of the highlights of Haga Ocean is the “Shark Tunnel”. Children will be impressed to see sharks so closely.

Both are located in the Hagaparken (google map), so you can easily combine the visits with some outdoor activities.
